APUA launches Utility Amnesty Programme for disconnected homes

APUA

APUA has launched a Utility Amnesty Programme for residential customers. The programme targets long-disconnected households across Antigua and Barbuda.

Firstly, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority announced the initiative. It follows a Cabinet decision made in April 2026.

Moreover, the programme aims to restore essential services. These include electricity, water, and telephone connections.

In addition, eligibility applies to customers disconnected for 180 days or more. Services must have stopped on or before September 30, 2025.

Therefore, qualifying residents can apply to restore their accounts. The programme offers a path to regularise outstanding issues.

Furthermore, applications take place at APUA customer service centres. These include the Business Centre on Independence Avenue. They also include the Village Walk location.

Meanwhile, applicants must provide key documents. These include a valid government-issued ID and an account number.

In addition, tenants must present a landlord permission letter. This ensures proper authorization for reconnection.

As a result, APUA expects a structured and verified application process. Staff will review all submissions carefully.

However, the deadline remains firm. Customers must apply by May 29, 2026.

Therefore, officials encourage early applications. This helps avoid delays close to the deadline.

At the same time, the programme supports household recovery. It gives residents a chance to restore essential services.

In addition, APUA encourages customers to regularise accounts. This improves service continuity and reduces long-term arrears.

Meanwhile, customers can request more information through official channels. They can call (268) 480-7150. They can also email customerservice@apua.ag.

Furthermore, the initiative reflects a broader government effort. It supports social and economic recovery for affected households.

Finally, officials say the programme offers relief and opportunity. It helps reconnect families to vital utilities across the country.

In conclusion, APUA urges eligible customers to act quickly. The amnesty programme provides a limited-time chance to restore services.
