Glanville Polyclinic Set for Major Health Upgrade

Glanville

Glanville Polyclinic will soon receive major healthcare upgrades, Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph announced.

On Monday, Joseph spoke at a town hall in St. Philip’s North. He outlined plans to expand services at the clinic. As a result, residents will access more care close to home.

First, the clinic will get an in-house pharmacy. Therefore, patients will no longer travel to St. John’s for prescriptions. Joseph said the Ministry will model it after the Villa clinic. That system already allows patients to fill prescriptions on site.

“Health is wealth,” Joseph told residents. He stressed that strong primary care improves lives. Moreover, it reduces pressure on larger facilities.

In addition, the clinic will add laboratory services. Consequently, residents will complete basic tests in their community. Joseph said simple lab exams should not require long travel. He believes this step will ease the burden on the main hospital.

Furthermore, the clinic will introduce EKG testing. This service will help patients with chest pain. Instead of rushing to St. John’s, they can seek help nearby. Joseph said quick access could save lives.

Ultrasound services are also coming. This upgrade will support pregnant women in the area. Joseph described ultrasound as one of the most requested services. Therefore, he expects strong demand once it begins.

Importantly, these changes form part of a wider health plan. The government aims to strengthen primary care across Antigua and Barbuda. By doing so, officials hope to improve overall public health.

Joseph called the move a major transformation for St. Philip’s North. He said the Ministry will roll out the upgrades in the coming months. Step by step, services will expand at the clinic.

As plans move forward, residents welcomed the news. Many said easier access will save time and money. Ultimately, the upgrades aim to bring healthcare closer to the people.

With these additions, the Glanville Polyclinic will serve as a stronger community hub. And in turn, more families will receive timely and convenient care.
