Man authorities say suffered severe burns after a jet ski exploded near Hawksbill Beach on Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, parents nearby rushed to help contain the fire.

The explosion happened across the road from Hawksbill Beach near the end of a student walkathon event.

Witnesses said most students had already left the area before the blast occurred. Shortly afterward, flames quickly engulfed the jet ski on dry land.

According to witness accounts, parents who attended the walkathon immediately reacted after the explosion.

Some rushed to remove nearby gas tanks from the area. Additionally, others worked to help contain the growing fire before emergency crews arrived.

The injured man suffered serious burns during the incident. However, a coworker quickly transported him to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for treatment.

Meanwhile, bystanders used a hose to control the flames temporarily.

Firefighters later arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze.

Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the explosion. However, investigations into the incident are now ongoing.

Officials also continue gathering information about the circumstances surrounding the fire and explosion.
