Antigua and Barbuda has made public documents exchanged with the United States over a possible arrangement involving people removed from the US who are citizens of other countries.

The government says discussions are still underway and that no final agreement has been reached. Both the US proposal and Antigua and Barbuda’s response are expected to be presented in Parliament.

Under Antigua’s proposed conditions, each person would have to be reviewed separately, with the government retaining the authority to approve or reject every transfer. The counter-proposal also suggests a maximum of seven people could be transferred within a three-month period.

The proposed arrangement includes requirements covering security and criminal checks, health, immigration history, protection claims and valid travel documents. Antigua is also seeking financial arrangements so the costs of receiving and supporting transferred individuals would not be placed on local taxpayers.
