Prime Minister Browne Urges Youth to Work

Prime Minister Gaston Browne is urging young people to take the many jobs available across Antigua and Barbuda. Moreover, he warned that chasing an “easy life” only leads to crime, violence, and national instability.

Jobs Are Available Across the Country

Speaking at the VC Bird Day ceremony on Tuesday, Browne stressed that employment is not scarce. He said there are 54,000 jobs in the country and noted that 4,000 more were created in the past year. Additionally, he expects job numbers to rise again next year.

He cautioned youth against rejecting work while others from abroad willingly accept the same opportunities. “You have an obligation to take up these jobs,” he said.

Start Somewhere and Build Up

Browne encouraged jobseekers, especially young people entering the workforce, to be realistic. He said, “It doesn’t matter where you start.” He added that too many people “pick and choose” jobs instead of accepting available positions.

He advised them to take any job now, then work toward the one they truly want later.

‘Easy Life’ Leads to Crime and Violence

The Prime Minister issued a strong warning about the dangers of refusing work and pursuing shortcuts. He said, “No easy life. Easy life means a life of crime and violence. Crime and violence mean an early death.”

Furthermore, he stressed that criminal behaviour thrives when people avoid hard work and responsibility.

National Stability Depends on Reducing Crime

Browne said national progress requires a stable and safe society. Because of this, he called for a major reduction in violent crimes, homicides, and thefts. He urged citizens to help restore order by choosing productive paths.

“We have to make sure that this nation remains stable,” he added.

Message to the Youth: Choose Work Over Crime

The Prime Minister appealed directly to young people, saying that their future depends on effort, discipline, and resilience. He insisted that the country can defeat crime only when citizens embrace honest work.

“Take up these jobs,” he repeated, urging every young person to use available opportunities to build a better life and avoid criminal activity.
