Antigua and Barbuda is preparing for its strongest tourism season yet. Officials project 450,000 stayover visitors and nearly one million cruise passengers for 2025–2026. Governor General Sir Rodney Williams made the announcement Thursday during the Throne Speech. He highlighted the country’s growing appeal as a top Caribbean destination.

Sir Rodney credited new investments in luxury resorts, high-end restaurants, and tourism diversification. “Our focus on upscale development while serving all segments shows strong results,” he said.

Several major projects are underway. On Barbuda, a Rosewood Hotel is under construction on the south shore. The Nobu Resort is expanding next to its existing restaurant. The PLH development, which currently has 350 rooms, is also growing. Barbudan investors are planning additional boutique projects.

On Antigua, Nikki Beach by Calvin Ayre and a new Marriott property at Yeptons Beach are nearing completion. New high-end restaurants are also opening to strengthen the islands’ culinary offerings.

The government is also supporting the broader market. It plans to invest in rehabilitating and expanding the Jolly Beach Hotel to serve economy-class travelers, who still make up the majority of arrivals.

Sir Rodney noted that the positive outlook reflects coordinated efforts by tourism stakeholders and the strategic vision of the Minister of Tourism. He added that 2025–2026 is shaping up to be the most successful season ever.

The Throne Speech framed tourism as the backbone of Antigua and Barbuda’s economy. By diversifying offerings, upgrading products, and sustaining investment, the islands are creating long-term growth. These steps also strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the Caribbean travel market.
