Venezuela’s oil exports rose sharply in January, according to shipping data released this week. Crude shipments averaged about 800,000 barrels per day, a significant increase from December, when exports were much lower due to restrictions and logistical delays.

The increase followed changes in oversight of Venezuela’s oil operations and the easing of barriers that had previously blocked shipments. Large volumes of crude that had been stored for weeks were finally cleared and sent to international markets, helping to boost overall export figures.

The United States emerged as the main destination for Venezuelan oil during the month, regaining a position it had lost in recent months. Exports to China declined during the same period, reflecting shifts in trade flows under the new conditions.

Despite the strong rebound, analysts note that export levels are still below peaks seen last year. They say sustained growth will depend on continued stability in operations and the ability to maintain steady production and shipping levels.
