Iran arrests 500 accused of spying for Israel
Iran police have arrested 500 people accused of spying for Israel, according to officials.
Commander Ahmadreza Radan of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police Command confirmed the arrests on the 15th. He said the suspects shared information with the enemy.
According to Reuters, Radan said half of the cases involved serious incidents. He explained that some suspects provided target information. Others filmed locations and sent attack details.
However, he did not give a timeline for the arrests. Meanwhile, Iranian media reported more detentions across the country.
The Tasnim News Agency said authorities arrested 20 people in northwestern Iran. They allegedly sent location data on military and security sites to Israel.
In addition, officials detained 10 people in northeastern Iran. That region saw minimal airstrike damage. Authorities accused them of collecting information on sensitive areas and key infrastructure.
Furthermore, a regional intelligence unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned of foreign activity. It claimed Israel and the United States are using spies to incite unrest.
Meanwhile, the Student News Network reported more arrests. Officials detained three people in Lorestan Province. They allegedly tried to incite public opinion and damage memorial symbols.
On the other side, an Israeli military source spoke to Reuters. The source said strikes targeted checkpoints using local intelligence.
In addition, the source described the attacks as a new phase of operations. Earlier, Israeli forces struck Basij militia checkpoints in Tehran.
The Basij militia operates under the Revolutionary Guard. It has enforced restrictions and handled internal security.
Meanwhile, Iran continues to restrict internet access. However, Israeli officials said they used photos sent through social media.
Moreover, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he aims to create conditions for change in Iran.
Finally, analysts say these developments could increase tensions. The situation continues to evolve as both sides respond.
