MP Clears Grays Hill Bushes After Residents Raise Safety Concerns
MP Daryll Matthew has followed through on a promise to clear overgrown bushes in Grays Hill. The action comes after residents raised serious safety concerns.
Recently, people in the community spoke during town hall meetings. They reported several robberies in the area. Moreover, they said thick vegetation provided hiding places for criminals.
As a result, the issue quickly became a priority.
Matthew, who represents St. John’s City South, said he listened carefully to residents. Therefore, he moved to address the problem without delay.
“After listening to the community, steps have been taken to have the area cleared,” Matthew wrote on social media.
He added that the work should improve visibility. In turn, this could help create a safer environment for residents.
Soon after the concerns were raised, crews arrived at the site. Heavy equipment then began clearing the dense bushes. Workers removed large sections of overgrown vegetation that had covered the land.
As the work continued, the once hidden area became open and visible.
Photos shared online show machinery pushing aside thick brush. The images also show large piles of cleared vegetation. Meanwhile, the land now appears far less concealed than before.
Residents had long complained about the problem. In fact, many said the bushes created the perfect hiding place for offenders.
Because the area was heavily overgrown, people could not easily see what was happening nearby. Consequently, some residents felt unsafe walking through the community.
However, the clearing effort is expected to change that.
With fewer hiding spots, visibility has already improved. In addition, residents can now see farther along the roadway and surrounding land.
Community members believe this could discourage criminal activity. After all, open spaces make it harder for offenders to hide.
At the same time, the effort shows the impact of community feedback. Residents spoke about their concerns, and the issue received attention.
Matthew said listening to residents remains important. Therefore, he encouraged people to continue raising issues that affect their neighborhoods.
For now, many in Grays Hill hope the changes will help restore a sense of safety. Moreover, they believe the cleared land will make the area feel more secure for everyone.
