Accused Swears Innocence in Nigel Christian Murder Trial
Accused Saleim Harrigan denied killing Customs officer Nigel Christian during police interviews. He swore on his family’s lives to support his claim. As a result, his statement stood out in court.
Moreover, investigators read the interviews into evidence before Justice Rajiv Persaud. Harrigan, Wayne Thomas, and Lasean Bully face trial for the 2020 killing. The case centers on the abduction and death of Christian.
According to evidence, gunmen took Christian from his McKinnons home on July 10, 2020. Later, they found his body on a dirt road in Thibou’s. Therefore, the case remains one of national concern.
In addition, Christian had worked on a Customs fraud investigation. He worked alongside colleague Cornell Benjamin, who was shot months earlier. This detail added context to the case.
Meanwhile, a senior officer from the Serious Crimes Unit presented the interviews. An Assistant Superintendent also helped present key statements. As a result, the court reviewed multiple accounts.
Importantly, investigators recovered several items during the probe. They found clothing and other materials in Cassada Gardens and Perry Bay. These items form a key part of the prosecution’s case.
Furthermore, DNA evidence links the accused to some items. However, all three men denied involvement or stayed silent. Therefore, the defence continues to challenge the claims.
Harrigan spoke strongly in his interviews. He said he stayed home most of the day. He also said he learned about the killing on social media.
In addition, he denied visiting key locations. He said he had no reason to be in McKinnons or Thibou’s. He also denied owning any items shown by police.
However, investigators presented phone data and photos. They said the evidence placed him near key areas. Harrigan did not respond to some of these claims.
Meanwhile, Bully said he could not recall his movements clearly. He also denied any knowledge of the crime. In later interviews, he refused to answer several questions.
Thomas also denied any role in the killing. He said he spent the day at a bike shop and with family. He also denied contact with any firearm.
Additionally, prosecutors presented phone tracking analysis. They said it supports a key witness account. That witness claimed he saw the abduction and aftermath.
Finally, the prosecution plans to close its case soon. After that, the defence will present its evidence.
