Independent candidate Alan Weston pushes transparency agenda in St Paul’s

Independent

Independent candidate Alan Weston campaigns on National Parks reform and transparency in St Paul’s. He is contesting the April 30 election.

Weston, also known as Alan “Spotlight” Weston, runs outside the two main political parties. In addition, he focuses on community concerns.

He says his campaign reflects real issues from residents. These include roads, water supply, and rising living costs.

“Not campaign slogans. Real things people tell us on doorsteps,” his campaign states. Therefore, he frames his message around daily struggles.

A major focus is reform of the National Parks Authority. Weston argues it needs stronger public oversight.

He proposes publishing annual financial reports. In addition, he wants clearer accountability systems.

He also suggests separating regulatory and commercial roles. This, he says, will improve transparency.

Furthermore, he wants structured community input. Residents should influence decisions affecting St Paul’s.

“If you pay fees, you should see services,” Weston said. However, he stressed this is about accountability, not criticism.

Weston also raised concerns about utilities. He pointed to inconsistent water supply. In addition, he cited rising electricity bills.

Therefore, he calls for clear service standards. He also wants public benchmarks for utility performance.

On infrastructure, Weston proposes a road repair tracking system. This plan would identify priority roads.

In addition, it would provide regular progress updates. Residents would see ongoing work clearly.

“You know which roads. You drive them every day,” his campaign states. This reflects ongoing complaints about potholes and flooding.

Weston also focuses on youth and small business support. He wants training linked to tourism, marine services, and trades.

In addition, he calls for fair and transparent business rules. This aims to support local entrepreneurs.

On cost of living, Weston highlights rising prices. Therefore, he calls for more transparency in public spending.

He also supports stronger local food supply chains. This, he says, can reduce pressure on households.

Finally, Weston promises regular accountability reports. He also pledges ongoing engagement with residents.

“I’ve listened to what St Paul’s needs,” he said. “Now someone has to do the work.”
