Antigua Cruise Port Sees Surge in Vendor Interest for Upland Project
Antigua Cruise Port reports strong interest in its Upland Development project. Notably, over 100 applicants applied for just 24 available spaces. Therefore, demand has far exceeded supply for the new vendor area.
Marketing and Communications Manager Elijah James confirmed the high response. He said the expression of interest period closed in February. In addition, he noted applications came from local, regional, and international investors.
However, he said the focus remains on keeping opportunities local. Therefore, officials aim to support Antigua-based vendors first. This approach guides the selection process.
The Upland Development includes 24 commercial units. Specifically, it offers 12 large stores and 12 kiosks. The stores measure over 1,000 square feet each. Meanwhile, kiosks measure about 150 square feet.
In addition, James said the project stays on schedule. Construction continues steadily despite the high interest. As a result, completion remains targeted for July 2026.
The opening date is planned for November 1, 2026. Therefore, vendors may begin operations after final completion. Officials expect a full rollout by that time.
However, selection challenges have emerged. Many applicants focused on food and beverage services. Therefore, the port now faces the risk of service duplication.
James explained that diversification remains a priority. He said planners want to avoid repeating services already found at Redcliffe Quay and Heritage Quay. As a result, officials will balance vendor categories carefully.
In addition, the port has raised expansion discussions with the government. James said the goal involves exploring more opportunities. Therefore, more investors may still gain access in the future.
He added that many applicants show strong interest in tourism investment. As a result, the project highlights growing confidence in Antigua’s cruise sector.
Overall, the Upland Development reflects rising commercial demand. It also shows strong regional and international interest. Therefore, officials continue working to manage growth and ensure balanced development.
