HAPI Programme Hands Over New Home to Briggins Resident

HAPI

HAPI Programme handed over a new home to a Briggins resident in Antigua and Barbuda.

A resident, Dawn Simon, received the keys and broke down in tears during the handover under the government housing assistance programme for vulnerable residents. She expressed gratitude to officials and supporters present.

The Social Protection Board in the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation carried out the handover, marking another milestone for the HAPPI programme. Officials described it as another step forward for social housing support.

Operations Manager Mary Baltimore said the handover represented more than a physical structure for Simon and her family. She said Simon was emotional and described the moment as tears of joy. It is not only a building but a home she added.

Permanent Secretary Sarah Stewart said the initiative continues to improve lives across Antigua and Barbuda. She thanked the Social Protection Board and corporate partners for assistance. The government is really really doing something wonderful for the people of Antigua and Barbuda. She also praised the Social Protection Board and sponsors for support.

Simon thanked government officials, programme staff and supporters for helping make her new home possible. She said many people contributed to making the moment possible. I would like to thank Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, Mrs Gumbs and Honourable Cutie Benjamin. I also thank Honourable Maria Browne and the HAPPI programme staff.

King’s Casino donated a 50-inch television to Simon as part of its support for beneficiaries. The donation added comfort and entertainment to the new household. Additional support also came from the West Indies Oil Company and other corporate donors. Donors continue to play a key role in the programme.

The handover reflects ongoing efforts to improve living conditions for vulnerable residents one home at a time. It also highlights partnership between government and community stakeholders. Officials said the programme continues to prioritise vulnerable households across Antigua and Barbuda. Each handover is intended to improve stability and dignity for recipients. It remains a steady effort to support housing needs nationwide. Government partners and donors continue working together to expand the HAPPI housing programme impact further nationwide.
