Antigua and Barbuda boost summer flights from Canada
Antigua and Barbuda is expanding its summer airlift from Canada. The move gives travellers more options and flexibility.
Firstly, WestJet will reintroduce a midweek Wednesday service. This flight runs between Toronto Pearson International Airport and V.C. Bird International Airport.
Moreover, the added Wednesday service complements WestJet’s year-round Sunday flights. Air Canada also operates weekly Sunday service.
As a result, overall capacity to the destination increases during peak summer travel months.
According to Tameka Wharton, the timing matches Antigua and Barbuda’s busy summer calendar. It benefits both leisure travellers and those visiting family.
She said the extra flights allow visitors to enjoy spontaneous summer getaways. For example, travellers can explore pink sand beaches in Barbuda.
In addition, visitors can take advantage of non-peak season rates. This offers affordable options for shorter trips or extended stays.
Meanwhile, Antigua and Barbuda’s summer events attract international attention. The Antigua Carnival runs from July 25 to August 4. It features parades, costumes, music competitions, and community celebrations.
Food festivals are also part of the summer line-up. The Urlings Seafood Festival on August 9 showcases local seafood, chefs, and live entertainment.
Later, ANUCON on August 16 highlights comics, anime, and cosplay. Fans can attend exhibitions, competitions, and interactive sessions.
Sports tourism adds another draw. The Caribbean Premier League T20 cricket season runs from August through September. Fans enjoy cricket, music, and food in a festive atmosphere.
Furthermore, the new Wednesday flight will operate weekly throughout July and August. This helps meet strong demand during cultural events and peak travel periods.
Tourism officials say the expanded schedule offers Canadian travellers a timely opportunity. Early bookings are recommended to secure preferred travel dates.
Finally, competitive fares make visiting Antigua and Barbuda more attractive. The extra flights ensure travellers can experience culture, festivals, and relaxation in one vibrant destination.
With this expanded airlift, Antigua and Barbuda positions itself as both a standalone destination and a gateway to the wider Caribbean.
