Antigua and Barbuda Covers All CXC Fees for 2026
Antigua and Barbuda has paid all CXC examination fees for students sitting exams in 2026.
As a result, families across the country will not face the usual exam costs. Officials say the move supports students and eases financial pressure at home.
During Friday’s post-Cabinet briefing, Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant confirmed the payments. He said the government covered all fees for exams set by the Caribbean Examinations Council.
Importantly, this includes both CSEC and CAPE exams. Students preparing for the May to June session will benefit.
Moreover, Merchant said parents who already paid have received refunds. Therefore, no family will carry the cost for the 2026 cycle.
The policy fulfills a promise made during the 2026 Budget presentation. According to Merchant, the government does not plan to recover the money. Instead, it views the spending as an investment.
“The government is utilizing its resources to invest in the education of its young people,” he said.
In addition, Merchant described the measure as social relief. He noted that many parents save for months to cover exam fees. For single parents, he said, the burden can be heavy.
Furthermore, he stressed that the policy applies to all students enrolled locally. It is not limited to citizens. Therefore, every eligible student in Antigua and Barbuda will benefit.
Merchant also pointed to rising costs for families with high-achieving children. Some students now take far more than the usual subjects. In certain cases, students sit more than 20 subjects. Consequently, exam fees can climb quickly.
Although officials have not revealed the total cost, they say details may come later. Still, the government stands firm on its commitment.
Overall, leaders say the decision strengthens access to education. At the same time, it offers direct financial relief. By covering the fees, Antigua and Barbuda aims to give every student a fair chance at success.
