HAPPI Builds New Eight-Bedroom Home for Family of 30

HAPPI

HAPPI is building a new home for a family of nearly 30 people in Antigua and Barbuda. The project is replacing an aging wooden house with a modern eight-bedroom, four-bathroom home. Before-and-after photos shared by the Helping Antigua and Barbuda Progress Initiative show how much the site has changed. The images highlight the progress already made. The new house will provide a safer and more comfortable place to live. Most of the family members are children.

HAPPI describes the project as its biggest and most ambitious housing effort so far. The organization said the size of the project has created challenges. However, the team remains committed to finishing the home. In a social media post, HAPPI said it is “building more than just a house—we’re building a home.” The organization thanked Minister for Social Transformation Rawdon Turner and Michael Joseph for their vision. It also recognized the HMP A-Team for its work on the construction site. HAPPI thanked Mary Baltimore and the Social Protection Board for their continued support and partnership.

HAPPI also shared comments from Minister Turner. He said seeing the family’s previous home deeply affected him. Turner recalled feeling emotional when he first visited the property. He said he could not believe children were living in those conditions every day. They slept, woke up, and tried to build their futures there. Turner said the family deserved much better. He added that no child should grow up believing those living conditions are all life has to offer. He said the experience strengthened his commitment to helping vulnerable families.

HAPPI continues to make steady progress as construction moves forward. Although the home is not yet complete, Turner said it is already changing lives. He said the project is giving the family hope for a brighter future. Turner also said he is proud to serve in a government that responds to hardship with compassion. He believes every HAPPI project shows a commitment to helping people across Antigua and Barbuda. Once completed, the new home will give the family more space, greater comfort, and a safe place where children can grow, learn, and look forward to the future.
