Teachers’ Upgrade Payments to Be Settled This Week, Government Confirms

Teachers’

Teachers’ upgrade payments will be completed this week as the government continues rolling out retroactive pay for public servants.

Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the Treasury is prioritising the disbursements. He confirmed that final checks are underway.

“Payments are being prioritised, and the Treasury aims to issue outstanding sums by Thursday,” Merchant said during Thursday’s post-Cabinet briefing.

These payments form part of the final phase of retroactive pay covering January to December 2023. Officials are processing the amounts in stages across government departments.

So far, more than EC$4.6 million has been disbursed to public servants, with additional payments still being verified.

“Several government departments have already received payments, with total disbursements exceeding 4.6 million dollars,” Merchant added.

He clarified that this round is not a new payout. Instead, it settles outstanding balances owed to public servants from earlier phases.

“Some persons were owed a balance. Now the Treasury is working on giving those individuals the remaining sums,” Merchant said.

Officials confirmed that payments are being made via electronic funds transfer. They will continue on a rolling basis as verification is completed.

Additionally, provisions have been made for eligible individuals who are no longer in public service. They can receive their payments once required information is submitted to the Treasury.

Merchant emphasised that the government remains committed to ensuring all public servants receive the pay they are owed.

He also noted that this final phase marks an important step in completing the full retroactive payment cycle, which began earlier this year.

Finally, the government encouraged those awaiting payments to submit any missing documents promptly to avoid delays.

The Treasury aims to fully conclude the upgrade payments by the end of this week, ensuring teachers and other public servants receive their entitlements.
