Antigua and Barbuda Dishes Shine in Canadian Culinary Showcase

Antigua and Barbuda showcased its vibrant cuisine at a special dinner in Yorkville, Canada. In fact, the event highlighted the islands’ unique flavors and culinary culture.

Guests enjoyed tamarind compote on wood bread, mahi mahi, goat confit, and Qatayef pancakes with saltfish. Then, the meal ended with a pineapple and passionfruit dessert, celebrating local ingredients.

ABTA’s Director for Tourism in Canada, Tameka Wharton, emphasized Antigua and Barbuda’s distinct culinary identity. She explained, “Ten Caribbean islands could use the same ingredients, yet Antigua and Barbuda make something special. Our food reflects our culture.”

Moreover, Canadian travelers seek more than all-inclusive resorts. Instead, they enjoy local dining, culinary experiences, and authentic culture.

In addition, May 2026 will mark the return of Antigua and Barbuda Culinary Month, a month-long festival celebrating food and culture.

The festival features Restaurant Week, the Eat Like A Local cookshop trail, FAB Fest, and the Caribbean Food Forum. Meanwhile, acclaimed chefs from the U.S., UK, and Canada, including Nina Compton and Tristen Epps, will host collaborative dinners and beachside cookouts.

Together, they will showcase Antigua and Barbuda’s flavors and traditions to a global audience.

Travel to Antigua and Barbuda is simple. Direct flights from Toronto Pearson to V.C. Bird International Airport take under five hours. Air Canada and WestJet offer nonstop service. Furthermore, December through April is high season with ideal weather.

Meanwhile, May-June offers fewer crowds and perfect timing for Culinary Month. July-November is quieter and ideal for flexible travel.

In addition, ABTA appointed Aldeen Consulting as its Canadian PR agency. Thus, media, trade, and consumer engagement will expand significantly.

ABTA also increased representation in Quebec and Ottawa and launched a Travel Agent Advisory Committee. Accordingly, Canadian travel advisors play a key role in promoting Antigua and Barbuda.

The dinner featured ABTA staff, Aldeen Consulting, and villa owner Shelley Challenger of Villa Coby, showcasing Antigua and Barbuda’s luxury accommodations.

Overall, Antigua and Barbuda combines food, culture, and travel. Therefore, the islands remain a top Caribbean destination for culinary tourism.
