Antigua Breaks Tourism Record with Unprecedented January Arrivals
Antigua and Barbuda has started 2026 with record-breaking tourism numbers, officials announced this week.
For example, cruise arrivals hit 197,206 in January, surpassing 173,266 in 2025 and 48,750 in 2022.
Air arrivals also reached a new milestone, climbing to 36,052 visitors, up from 34,365 last year. This shows steady growth in stay-over tourism.
Meanwhile, the yachting sector recorded 3,633 arrivals, another record for January, highlighting Antigua’s strength as a top sailing destination.
Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez said the performance reflects strong coordination across the industry.
“These figures are historic. Moreover, seeing record-breaking numbers in cruise, air, and yachting in a single month shows the strength of our tourism product,” he said.
He added that growth stems from strategic investments in airlift, stronger cruise partnerships, and sustained marketing in key source markets.
Furthermore, the numbers highlight the importance of diversification in tourism. Cruise arrivals drive volume, while air arrivals show growth in higher-value visitors.
In addition, yachting maintains its niche but profitable contribution to the sector.
Officials are optimistic that 2026 could become one of the strongest tourism years in Antigua and Barbuda’s history.
Fernandez emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum. He noted that sustainable growth must benefit all Antiguans and Barbudans.
“Our goal is not just growth, but sustainable growth that benefits everyone,” he said.
Overall, the record January performance sets a strong tone for the months ahead. Antigua and Barbuda continues to solidify its position as one of the Caribbean’s leading tourism destinations.
In conclusion, coordinated industry efforts, strategic investments, and diversified tourism products have contributed to this historic start.
With momentum high, officials aim to continue growth while ensuring economic benefits reach communities across the islands.
