Alex Browne Sworn-in As UPP Senator, Again

Alex

Alex Browne has returned to the Senate of Antigua and Barbuda. He takes the oath after losing the March 16, 2026, by-election in St. Philip North.

This morning, Browne pledged to “faithfully bear true allegiance to the State of Antigua and Barbuda, its Constitution and laws.” He emphasized his commitment to public service.

Moreover, colleagues from both sides of the Senate congratulated him on his return. The ceremony highlighted cooperation and respect across party lines.

Senator Philip Shoul also offered remarks. He said the UPP hopes to bring in younger voices to the Senate. “We aim to give more young people leadership roles in the party,” Shoul added.

Browne will face Randy Baltimore again as the UPP candidate in the upcoming general election. The vote is expected later this month. Consequently, St. Philip North will see a familiar political battle.

This is not Browne’s first Senate appointment. Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle first appointed him following the 2023 general election. Browne had performed strongly against veteran politician Sir Robin Yearwood, who retired this month after 50 years in Parliament.

Furthermore, Browne’s return reflects his party’s confidence in his experience and dedication. He brings institutional knowledge and a record of public engagement.

In addition, his colleagues praised his approach to constructive debate and policy discussions. They highlighted Browne’s ability to represent constituents effectively.

Finally, Browne acknowledged his defeat in the by-election. However, he stressed his determination to continue serving the public. “I remain committed to advancing the interests of St. Philip North,” he said.

Overall, Browne’s swearing-in marks a continuation of his political career. His presence in the Senate ensures experienced leadership for the UPP and active representation for his constituency.
