Woman Arrested After Trying to Join TTPS With Fake CXC Papers

Woman

Woman who applied to join the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) seven years ago now faces serious charges. Officers arrested the Arima resident after they uncovered fake CXC certificates in her original application.

She first applied in 2018. Back then, she submitted several documents, including what she claimed were her Caribbean Examinations Council certificates. Everything looked normal at the time. However, officers recently began a wide review of past applicants. During this process, they noticed glaring discrepancies in her certificate.

Because of this, they made an official report. Fraud Squad officers then launched a detailed investigation. They moved quickly, since the woman was already advancing through the recruitment process again.

Yesterday, she arrived at the Police Training Academy in St James. She came for her final orientation session before entering training. However, officers confronted her and arrested her on the spot. The arrest shocked many recruits who were preparing to begin their own training cycle.

Investigators explained that the enquiry involved several steps. First, they prepared correspondence for the Ministry of Education. Then, they asked the Ministry to confirm whether the certificates were valid or forged. Officials responded and provided the clarity police needed. Their findings strengthened the case against her.

As the investigation progressed, officers gathered her statements, compared documents, and secured copies of the disputed certificates. They also reviewed interviews from 2018. This helped them connect the old application with the current attempt.

The Fraud Squad said the evidence linked her directly to the forged paperwork. They also confirmed she used the same certificates both in 2018 and during her recent application. Therefore, investigators expect her to face charges of forgery and uttering a forged document.

She remains in police custody. Additionally, she is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate today. The magistrate will decide her next steps as the investigation continues.

This case highlights the intense screening process for new recruits. It also shows how the TTPS now reviews old files to ensure integrity. As the probe continues, officers say they intend to follow every lead and maintain strict standards for future applicants.
