Former Hadeed Motors Worker Convicted in SUV Fraud Case
Former Hadeed Motors employee Dylan Simon now faces prison after his role in a bold SUV fraud scheme. The long-time worker created fake records, removed a vehicle from the company, and later sold it for tens of thousands of dollars. His actions shocked the dealership and triggered a full investigation.
Simon, who worked at the business for more than twenty years, stood before Justice Stanley John earlier this week. The judge found him guilty on six charges. These charges include electronic forgery, larceny by a clerk, false pretences, and money laundering. Officers took him into custody right after the verdict. He will return to court for sentencing on December 11.
The fraud began in 2020. Simon entered fake details into the company’s system and claimed a cheque paid for a Suzuki Vitara. No cheque existed. However, the false entry allowed him to print documents and move the SUV off the lot. He even collected a $600 commission as if the sale were real.
About six months later, Simon sold the SUV to a used-car dealer for $55,000. He walked away with a vehicle worth $22,000 and $23,000 in cash. Investigators said the deal looked clean on paper, but the truth surfaced when Hadeed Motors reopened after the COVID-19 shutdown.
During an internal audit, managers noticed strange changes in records. They saw altered cheque numbers and missing payments on files Simon handled. They asked him to explain the gaps. He failed to do so and resigned the same day. The next morning, he tried to transfer the SUV at the Transport Board. Staff blocked the transfer and alerted police.
Simon later claimed other workers accessed his computer. He also said the buyer paid in cash. The court rejected both claims. An independent auditor concluded that Simon controlled the entire process and used weak internal systems to his advantage.
This conviction is not his first. In 2023, the court fined him $100,000 for another electronic forgery case at the same dealership. Now, he awaits a sentence that could bring far heavier consequences.
