ICC and Players’ Body Clash Over T20 World Cup Terms
A dispute has emerged between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the World Cricketers’ Association (WCA) ahead of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup. The disagreement centres on player terms, including commercial rights, workload concerns, and the use of player images during the tournament.
The WCA has raised concerns that players were not adequately consulted before key decisions were made. It says the current arrangements place heavy demands on players while limiting their control over personal branding and commercial opportunities. The association is calling for fairer terms and stronger player representation.
The ICC, however, maintains that the tournament regulations are in line with previous World Cups and are necessary to protect the integrity and commercial success of the event. Officials say discussions are ongoing and that they remain open to engagement with player representatives.
The clash comes just months before the tournament, raising concerns about tensions between governing bodies and players at a time when global cricket continues to expand and commercial stakes remain high.
