Statement on U.S. Visa Reports by Antigua and Barbuda Ambassador Sir Ronald Sanders

Statement by Antigua and Barbuda Ambassador Sir Ronald Sanders clarifies recent reports about U.S. visa processing. Media outlets, including Fox News and CVM News, suggested the U.S. Department of State may pause visas for about seventy-five countries. This list reportedly includes twelve CARICOM members, such as Antigua and Barbuda.

Upon learning of these reports, Ambassador Sanders immediately contacted the U.S. Department of State. He confirmed that no formal announcement has been made and no official communication has reached affected embassies.

Senior U.S. officials explained that the possible pause comes from a White House directive. However, it does not affect all visa categories. The measure applies only to immigrant visas, commonly called green cards, and could last up to sixty days. During this time, vetting and screening procedures will be reviewed.

Ambassador Sanders emphasized that no written notice has been provided. All information comes from direct conversations with senior U.S. officials, not from any formal directive.

He also noted that immigrant visa applications are a matter between the applicant and the U.S. government. The applicant’s country of nationality or origin does not have a legal or administrative role in the approval or denial of visas.

Meanwhile, Antigua and Barbuda continues diplomatic engagement with U.S. authorities. The government is seeking removal from the list of countries subject to partial visa restrictions, including the requirement for certain applicants to post a bond. These efforts remain active and ongoing.

Ambassador Sanders urged citizens to rely only on verified information. Media speculation does not reflect formal U.S. policy at this time. Antigua and Barbuda’s government is closely monitoring the situation.

The government remains committed to protecting its citizens’ rights. It will continue working through official channels to ensure fair and uninterrupted visa processing for qualified applicants.

In conclusion, Antigua and Barbuda emphasizes diplomacy, accurate information, and ongoing engagement with the U.S. authorities regarding immigrant visas.
