Over 1,500 Pounds of Meth Seized From Secret Labs in Mexico
Authorities found more than 1,500 pounds of methamphetamine in clandestine laboratories in Mexico on Monday. The Mexican navy conducted the operations in Durango, Sinaloa, and Michoacán.
In Durango, a land patrol in Carricitos discovered a hidden lab. Officials seized 1,150 liters and 695 kilograms of chemical precursors and materials for synthetic drug production. They also disabled the lab to prevent future use.
In Sinaloa, authorities located another lab in Los Cedros, a region linked to cartel activity. They confiscated about 750 kilograms of finished meth. In addition, they took 1,150 liters and 695 kilograms of chemical precursors.
In Michoacán, officials found a lab in La Escondida. They removed 9,700 liters and 500 kilograms of chemical precursors, along with laboratory equipment and tools.
The Mexican navy destroyed all three labs. It shared photos and videos of the operations on social media. The navy said the destruction dealt a significant blow to organized crime and stopped these drugs from reaching society.
The U.S. continues its campaign against drug trafficking. In recent weeks, it carried out more than 20 strikes on alleged drug-ferrying boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, reportedly killing over 100 people.
Earlier this month, the U.S. military arrested Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro during a separate operation. President Trump also threatened possible action against cartels in Mexico.
Trump said the U.S. has blocked 97 percent of drugs entering by water. He added that authorities will now target cartels on land. He described the cartels as “running Mexico” and called the situation “very sad to watch.”
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded, saying she had a “very good conversation” with Trump. She insisted that U.S. intervention is unnecessary. She stressed Mexico’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The lab seizures removed large amounts of meth and chemical precursors. They show the ongoing challenges Mexican authorities face in combating drug trafficking. They also demonstrate continued security efforts across the region.
