Antiguans Gain Visa-Free Entry to Canada Under New Travel Policy
Antiguans who held a Canadian visa within the last 10 years can now enter Canada visa-free. Antiguans who currently hold a valid U.S. non-immigrant visa also qualify.
This change follows a new Canadian travel policy. Canada has expanded visa-free access to 13 countries. The move aims to boost tourism and strengthen international ties.
As part of the update, Canada extended access to its Electronic Travel Authorization program. The eTA simplifies short-term travel for eligible visitors. It applies to travelers arriving by air.
Importantly, the visa-free benefit does not apply to everyone. It applies only to travelers who meet specific criteria. Eligible travelers must have held a Canadian visa in the last 10 years. Alternatively, they must currently hold a valid U.S. non-immigrant visa.
Under this policy, approved travelers may stay in Canada for up to six months. However, they must still obtain an eTA before flying.
The eTA is a digital travel authorization. It is required for citizens of visa-exempt countries who fly to Canada. It also applies to those transiting through Canadian airports.
However, travelers entering Canada by land or sea do not need an eTA. This includes arrivals by car or cruise ship.
Applying for an eTA is simple and done online. Applicants need a valid passport, an email address, and a credit or debit card. The fee is $7 Canadian.
Most applications are approved within minutes. However, some may require additional checks. An approved eTA remains valid for five years or until passport expiry.
Canada said the policy supports economic growth through tourism. It also promotes safe and efficient travel for low-risk visitors.
Despite the simplified process, travelers must still meet entry requirements. These include having sufficient funds and intent to leave Canada on time. Border officials may ask questions on arrival.
The following countries are included in Canada’s new visa-free access under the eTA program:
Antigua and Barbuda
Argentina
Costa Rica
Morocco
Panama
Philippines
St. Kitts and Nevis
St. Lucia
St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Seychelles
Thailand
Trinidad and Tobago
Uruguay
Overall, the policy marks a positive shift for Caribbean and Latin American travelers. It reduces barriers while maintaining border security.
