Government to Deploy 120 New Health Workers by Year-End
Government officials in Antigua and Barbuda have announced plans to deploy 120 newly recruited health professionals by the end of 2025.
The announcement came during Thursday’s post-Cabinet media briefing. Cabinet met on Wednesday, chaired by Acting Prime Minister Sir Steadroy Cutie Benjamin.
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the recruitment process is complete. Most of the new hires are nurses, with several doctors included.
“Cabinet noted the announcement by the Health Minister during his budget speech,” Merchant said. “These 120 professionals will reinforce public health services across the country.”
Officials expect all new personnel to be fully deployed by the end of this year. As a result, health facilities can expand capacity and maintain smooth service delivery.
Moreover, Merchant emphasized that the new staff will help ensure continuity of care. “This expanded team allows the government to manage transitions responsibly,” he said. “It ensures uninterrupted provision of essential health services.”
The deployment aims to strengthen healthcare delivery across Antigua and Barbuda. Hospitals, clinics, and other medical facilities will benefit from additional staff.
Merchant also noted that details about arrival and deployment will be shared soon. The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre will hold a press briefing to provide information to the public.
Additionally, the new health workers will support ongoing programs and reduce strain on existing staff. The government sees this as a key step in improving patient care and service quality.
This initiative aligns with broader government goals to enhance public health. By increasing the number of trained professionals, the country aims to meet rising healthcare demands efficiently.
Furthermore, the recruitment demonstrates government commitment to the wellbeing of citizens. Acting Prime Minister Benjamin said the move reflects careful planning and responsible management of resources.
In conclusion, the Cabinet confirmed that the 120 new health professionals will join the workforce by year-end. This ensures better service delivery and strengthened healthcare across Antigua and Barbuda.
Officials encourage the public to follow updates from the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for deployment schedules and additional details.
