InterCaribbean Launches Scheduled Service to Ogle Airport

InterCaribbean Airways has launched scheduled service to Eugene F. Correia International Airport at Ogle. The new route connects Ogle directly with Barbados, expanding regional air access for Guyana.

Previously, the airline operated only through Cheddi Jagan International Airport at Timehri. However, the new service responds to strong demand for flights into the centrally located Ogle airport. As a result, travelers now gain faster and more convenient access to Georgetown.

To mark the launch, InterCaribbean dedicated its specially painted “Spirit of Guyana” aircraft. The aircraft proudly displays the Guyana flag on its tail. Additionally, the words “Spirit of Guyana” appear on the nose, celebrating national identity across the airline’s network.

Founder and Chairman Lyndon Gardiner said the new service fulfills a long-standing promise. He explained that customers consistently requested access to Ogle. Therefore, the airline acted to meet those needs.

Gardiner reflected on InterCaribbean’s expansion during the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, many airlines reduced routes and services. In contrast, InterCaribbean chose to expand southward into Grenada, Barbados, and Guyana.

He said the airline saw opportunity instead of uncertainty. Moreover, it recognized communities in need of stronger connections. According to Gardiner, that decision transformed the company’s growth and strengthened Guyana’s regional links.

Gardiner added that the arrival at Timehri four years ago marked only the beginning. Since then, customer feedback guided expansion plans. Consequently, service to Ogle became a priority.

Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar welcomed the new route. He said the expansion benefits both aviation and tourism. Furthermore, it strengthens Guyana’s visibility across the Caribbean.

Indar highlighted the symbolic value of the “Spirit of Guyana” aircraft. He noted that the aircraft will fly throughout the region. As a result, Guyana’s national colors will be visible wherever the Caribbean diaspora lives.

InterCaribbean currently serves 28 destinations across 17 countries. Therefore, the Ogle route plugs directly into a wide regional network. This improves connectivity for business, tourism, and family travel.

At Ogle Airport, Roraima Airways will act as ground handling agent. Overall, the new service marks another step in strengthening Caribbean air connectivity.
