Antigua & Barbuda Shines at OECS Smash 2025 Tournament
Antigua and Barbuda showcased outstanding talent and determination at the OECS Table Tennis Smash 2025, held from November 7 to 9 in Grenada. The national team, led by 16-year-old rising star Stuti Kashyap, delivered an impressive performance that brought home two gold medals and one silver across multiple categories. Kashyap dominated the women’s singles event, securing the top podium spot after a series of commanding victories that highlighted her technical precision and composure under pressure. She then partnered with Mekhi Simmons in the mixed doubles competition, where the duo displayed excellent teamwork and coordination to earn Antigua and Barbuda’s second gold medal of the tournament. Their victories not only marked personal milestones but also reflected the growing strength of Antigua and Barbuda’s youth talent in regional table tennis.
Adding to the nation’s success, Kashyap teamed up with Aneis Miredin from Martinique in the women’s doubles category, claiming the silver medal after an intense series of matches. Despite the pairing being a cross-national partnership, their chemistry on the court was evident as they skillfully overcame several strong opponents before narrowly missing out on gold. This achievement underscored Kashyap’s versatility and adaptability as a player capable of excelling in both singles and doubles formats. The OECS Smash, a premier regional table tennis competition, featured some of the Caribbean’s most talented young athletes, making Antigua and Barbuda’s medal haul an even more commendable accomplishment. The country’s success also reinforces its growing reputation as a rising force in regional table tennis, particularly in the youth categories.
The Antigua and Barbuda Table Tennis Association (ABTTA) praised the team’s achievements and pledged to continue investing in the sport’s development. In an official statement, the association commended Kashyap and her teammates for their discipline, skill, and sportsmanship, emphasizing that these results are the product of years of consistent training and dedication. “We will redouble our efforts to introduce and train more young girls and women in the sport,” the ABTTA shared. “Stuti’s success is a clear reminder of the importance of balanced representation in our national programs.” The association also extended heartfelt thanks to the Antigua and Barbuda National Olympic Committee (ABNOC) for its ongoing support in providing the necessary resources for athletes to train and compete at the regional level. With continued focus on youth development, inclusivity, and professional training, Antigua and Barbuda’s table tennis future looks brighter than ever, and the nation’s performance at the OECS Smash 2025 stands as a proud moment of national achievement and inspiration for aspiring young athletes.
