UWI Five Islands Graduation Embraces AI and Caribbean Identity

The UWI Five Islands graduation ceremony celebrated the success of nearly 200 students, focusing on the theme of “Pelicans in an AI-Driven Future.” This theme highlights the importance of combining new technology, like artificial intelligence, with Caribbean cultural traditions. The ceremony reminded graduates to use their education not only to innovate but also to honor and protect their Caribbean roots. Valedictorian Kadeem Charles, who graduated with top honors in Data Science and Computer Science, inspired his classmates to lead in technology while staying connected to their heritage.
Graduates came from Antigua and Barbuda as well as other nearby islands, including St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Montserrat, and St. Lucia. Degrees were awarded in many different areas such as Education, Business, Nursing, Social Work, and Science. This range shows how the UWI Five Islands Campus supports a variety of fields that are important for the development of the Caribbean region. The event was a celebration of both academic achievement and the role of education in building a stronger Caribbean community.
The message from the ceremony was clear: technology and culture should grow together. Even as the world moves quickly with advances in AI and other technologies, graduates were reminded to remember their roots and use their skills to make a positive impact in their societies. This balance between tradition and innovation is key to shaping a future where Caribbean identity remains strong while embracing change.
