Local Bishops Conclude Rome Pilgrimage and Plenary Meeting
Local and Caribbean bishops of the Antilles Episcopal Conference have completed a two-week pilgrimage to Rome. The visit also included their Annual Plenary Meeting.
The journey took place from April 27 to May 8. It brought together bishops from across the Caribbean. In addition, it included spiritual renewal and key Church discussions.
During the first phase, from April 27 to May 2, the bishops took part in the Ad Limina Apostolorum Visit. They met with the Holy Father and several Vatican offices.
These included departments responsible for clergy, education, doctrine, family life, worship, and human development. They also engaged with offices focused on Christian unity and Church governance.
Furthermore, the bishops met with the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors. They also held talks with the Secretariat of State and the Synod of Bishops.
According to the Antilles Episcopal Conference, the audience with the Holy Father stood out as the key moment. They described it as deeply pastoral and encouraging.
In addition, the bishops said the meeting strengthened unity with the Church’s leadership. It also renewed their commitment to evangelization across the Caribbean.
“The encounter strengthened their communion with the Successor of St. Peter,” the statement said. It also highlighted renewed dedication to mission work in the region.
Meanwhile, the bishops took part in Mass at Rome’s four Major Basilicas. These included the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran and St. Mary Major.
At St. Mary Major, they prayed at the tomb of the late Pope Francis. They also visited the tombs of Saints Peter and Paul.
There, they reaffirmed their commitment to apostolic ministry. The pilgrimage reinforced their spiritual mission and unity in faith.
During the second week, the focus shifted to formation and reflection. Bishops prepared for the Annual Plenary Meeting.
In addition, they attended a workshop on synodal leadership led by Fr. David McCallum, SJ. They also joined a retreat guided by Sr. Julie Peters, SSM.
Furthermore, the group made a pilgrimage to Assisi. After that, they moved into business sessions for the Conference.
Finally, the visit combined prayer, learning, and planning. It strengthened both spiritual direction and regional Church leadership across the Caribbean.
