Brian Murphy Takes ABHTA Chair Ahead of Tourism Event
The Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association has appointed Brian Murphy as Incoming Chairman. Murphy serves as Director of Operations at Carlisle Bay Antigua.
Meanwhile, Murphy replaces Craig Marshall, who resigned from the position. Marshall chaired the Association after his election in 2023 and re-election in 2025. However, he stepped down to take on new responsibilities outside the ABHTA membership.
The Association praised Marshall for his strong leadership and dedicated service. In addition, officials highlighted his people-focused approach during his time as Chairman. They also thanked him for supporting Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism industry with passion and professionalism.
Furthermore, the Board of Directors met on May 11, 2026, to address the vacancy. During the meeting, members activated Clause 29 of the Association’s By-Laws. The clause allows the Board to fill executive positions until the next general meeting.
After discussions, the Board unanimously confirmed Murphy as Chairman. As a result, the Association now moves forward with new leadership during a key tourism period.
Importantly, Murphy takes office as Antigua and Barbuda prepares to host the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Marketplace 2026. The major regional tourism event will attract international buyers, sellers, and tourism leaders from across the world.
Consequently, Antigua and Barbuda will gain major international attention during the showcase. The Association said the leadership change ensures continuity and strong representation for the tourism sector.
Speaking after his appointment, Murphy expressed gratitude for the opportunity. He described the role as an honour at an important time for the tourism industry.
Moreover, Murphy pledged to strengthen partnerships across the sector. He said he looks forward to working closely with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, tourism partners, and the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union.
“Together, we can continue strengthening and advancing our industry for the benefit of all,” Murphy stated.
Finally, the ABHTA reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable tourism growth. The Association also stressed the importance of public and private sector collaboration. Officials believe continued teamwork will help Antigua and Barbuda maintain its position as a leading Caribbean tourism destination.
