World Bank and Guyana Review Green Energy Buildings Project
The World Bank and the Government of Guyana have completed a review of the Caribbean Efficient and Green Energy Buildings Project, which aims to reduce energy use and carbon emissions in public buildings across the region. The review focused on progress made so far and areas that need strengthening as the project continues.
Officials reported improvements in energy efficiency through the use of renewable energy systems, modern lighting, and climate-smart building designs. The project supports Guyana’s broader goal of transitioning to cleaner energy while lowering electricity costs for government facilities.
Discussions during the review also highlighted the importance of technical training and stronger institutional capacity to ensure long-term success. Stakeholders agreed that regional cooperation remains key to sharing best practices and lessons learned.
The initiative forms part of wider Caribbean efforts to promote sustainable development and climate resilience, while reducing dependence on fossil fuels and supporting greener public infrastructure.
