Twenty-Five Young People Honored with Duke of Edinburgh Awards
Twenty-five young people received Duke of Edinburgh Awards at a ceremony held at Government House on Saturday.
The investiture was officiated by Governor General Sir Rodney Williams. He highlighted the programme’s role in building confidence, discipline, teamwork, and purpose among youth.
“Both Lady Williams and I take pride in supporting a programme that nurtures leadership, service, and resilience,” Sir Rodney said.
He also acknowledged the importance of the annual Commonwealth Day activities hosted by the Governor General’s office. These events promote youth development, service, and global citizenship.
Sir Rodney described the Duke of Edinburgh Award as more than a programme. “It is a journey that challenges young people to discover potential, serve others, and grow in confidence and discipline,” he said.
Moreover, he stressed that these qualities contribute to strong individuals, communities, and nations. The Governor General emphasized that the programme helps young people develop skills that extend far beyond school.
He also commended the support system behind each awardee. “Award Leaders, volunteers, educators, and parents play a crucial role. Their guidance makes this programme possible,” he added.
The ceremony celebrated both Bronze and Silver awardees. Some students completed only Bronze, while others achieved both levels.
Awardees included Ethan Bailey, Nicholas Parkinson, Kemeish Edwards, Tesarri Thomas, Jean Claude Brunelle, Elijah Phillip, Mark Lewis, Daniel Browne, Xavier Patrick, Assiah Bailey, Shaneka George, Haneil Parker, Shanea Jervis, Nayomi Kildare, Devann Zachers, Emarion Zacks, Athalia Crump, Gerrick Schouten, Stacie Lewis, Kyson Brown, Charles Roberts, Beatrice Mathis, Joanna Phillips, Lynell Peter, and Joel Griffin.
Award leaders recognized for their dedication were Mr. Winston Drew, Mrs. Pearl Adams-Nelson, Ms. Arianna Adams, Ms. Denise Lewis, and Mr. Patrick Irby.
The ceremony emphasized teamwork, perseverance, and personal growth. Young people were encouraged to continue serving their communities and developing leadership skills.
