PM Browne Calls for Urgent Climate Action at New York Summit

At Climate Week NYC, world leaders are being urged to speed up the global transition to clean energy. The event, which runs alongside the United Nations General Assembly, focused on transforming climate pledges into real action.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda delivered a strong message, stressing that wealthy nations must move faster to tackle climate change. He reminded delegates that small island nations like Antigua and Barbuda face an existential threat from rising seas and stronger storms, and cannot afford more delays.

UN climate chief Simon Stiell also warned that, despite last year’s $2 trillion investment in renewable energy, the benefits of the clean energy shift are not being shared equally. The new Build Clean Now initiative was launched to accelerate the move toward sustainable industries, while the recent High Seas Treaty was hailed as a breakthrough for protecting oceans and global cooperation.
