Treasury Lists Paid Departments as Some Workers Still Await Back Pay
Treasury says it has issued retroactive salary payments to many public sector workers. However, some employees still report that they have not received their money.
The update covers ministries, departments, and statutory offices across the public service. Even so, concerns continue among workers awaiting payment.
For weeks, public servants expected the back pay. Many workers looked to the end of April as the deadline.
The payments come from agreements between the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and public sector unions. These deals included salary increases and benefit adjustments.
Treasury reported that it issued payments as of Wednesday, April 29. It said it covered a wide range of eligible workers.
The department also set a goal to complete most payments by April 2026. It expects another update on May 15.
Treasury included pensioned and separated public servants in the process. These groups also form part of the payout plan.
However, some workers say their payments have not arrived. They continue to wait despite the official list.
Several employees checked their departments on the Treasury list. Still, they found no payment in their accounts.
Earlier, the government set March 31, 2026, as a target date. Later, officials shifted the deadline to the end of April.
The government also tied the payments to teacher upgrades and other salary adjustments. Officials said they would complete all payouts within the revised timeline.
The Treasury listed many departments in the payment rollout. These include the Office of the Governor General, the House of Representatives, and the Cabinet Office.
Other listed offices include the Judicial Department, Public Service Commission, and Auditor General’s Office. Foreign Affairs, Tourism, Works, Education, Finance, and Health also appear on the list.
Security services such as Police, Fire, and the Defence Force are included as well. Immigration, Post Office, and Public Safety also feature in the rollout.
Despite the broad coverage, delays still affect some workers. Many now await the next update from Treasury on May 15. departments included in the payout.
These include the Office of the Governor General and the House of Representatives.
Other offices include the Cabinet Office and Judicial Department.
The list also includes the Public Service Commission and Office of the Auditor General.
Additional departments include Foreign Affairs, Tourism, Works, Education, Finance, and Health.
Security agencies such as Police, Fire, and Defence Force are also included.
Despite the wide coverage, delays continue for some workers.
