Workers Urged to Prepare for Global Challenges Ahead

Workers

Workers across Antigua and Barbuda must act now to face future challenges.

At a Labour Day rally, Alrick Daniel called for change. He urged workers to build strong financial habits. He also encouraged lifelong learning.

The Antigua and Barbuda Trades and Labour Union and the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party hosted the event on Monday.

Daniel warned about rising global risks. Inflation continues to climb. Climate change creates new pressure. At the same time, artificial intelligence is reshaping jobs.

These threats may start abroad, yet they affect local lives. For this reason, Daniel urged early action. Young people, in particular, must prepare now.

He also praised recent national gains. The country has improved roads and services. In addition, more jobs are now available.

Education continues to expand as well. The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus and the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies provide new opportunities.

Still, Daniel raised concern about public behavior. Some people damage shared spaces. For example, vandals have destroyed bus shelters.

Because of this, he urged citizens to take pride in national assets. Communities must protect what they build.

He then focused on personal growth. People should keep learning at every stage of life. No one should let age hold them back.

In the workplace, attitude also matters. Workers should aim higher and seek growth. They should also avoid conflict and stay productive.

Daniel pushed for a new mindset. Jobs should improve quality of life, not just income.

He also stressed financial discipline. Workers need to save and plan ahead. Hard times will come, so preparation is key.

In the end, Daniel called for unity. He highlighted the strength of organized labour. He also invited leaders to mark the 75th Labour Day together.
