Police warn illegal licence plate swappers will face new detection system
Police have warned motorists that altering or swapping licence plates illegally will soon be much harder to get away with.
Next year, officers will use a new real-time licence plate detection system. This technology will instantly identify mismatched plates against Transport Board records.
Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers highlighted the system’s capabilities. He told state media, “Those of you who keep changing number plates and you’re not Transport Board, we will catch you.” He described it as a major shift in road policing.
Furthermore, the system will automatically scan vehicles passing on roads. It will alert officers to irregularities immediately. Consequently, a common loophole used in vehicle theft and other crimes will close.
Jeffers also said police will adapt strategies as new tools are introduced. In addition, he stressed the need for flexibility in tackling crime. Therefore, the force can respond more effectively to evolving criminal activity.
He appealed to the public for patience while these measures are implemented. At the same time, he assured residents that enforcement efforts are being strengthened. As a result, motorists can expect a visible police presence.
The new technology is part of a broader plan to modernise policing. For example, it aims to improve detection times and increase public confidence. Moreover, officers will be able to respond faster to suspicious activities.
Police officials emphasised that the system is designed to complement existing road safety measures. In addition, it provides officers with an advanced tool to tackle crime more efficiently.
As implementation progresses, authorities promise training and public awareness campaigns. Likewise, community cooperation will be key in maximising the technology’s benefits.
Ultimately, the goal is safer roads and stronger law enforcement. With the detection system, illegal plate swapping will no longer go unnoticed. Consequently, vehicle-related crimes are expected to drop.
Police urge motorists to comply with licensing laws. Otherwise, new technology will make violations easier to detect. In short, the crackdown signals a new era in road policing.
