Lovell Moves to Sue Prime Minister Over Facebook Post

Lovell

Lovell says he will sue Prime Minister Gaston Browne after a heated online dispute this week. The clash intensified when Browne posted several documents on Facebook, including a vehicle registration in Lovell’s name.

The issue began on Tuesday when Browne shared images of vehicle-related documents. He questioned whether Opposition members obtained duty-free waivers legally. He also warned that any improper waivers could lead to restitution or criminal action.

One image showed a registration certificate for Lovell’s Kia Sorento. However, a registration certificate does not prove a duty-free waiver. Lovell says the post created a misleading impression that he gained improper benefits.

On Wednesday, he issued a strong press statement. He accused the Prime Minister of launching “reckless, politically motivated attacks.” Lovell added that he bought the car in December 2021 and paid all taxes. He has already asked the dealership for supporting documents.

Governance observers raised wider concerns about the situation. Many question how the documents were obtained. They also argue that posting them on a personal Facebook page bypassed normal government procedures.

Some critics worry about the use of state resources. They warn that such actions blur the line between public authority and political campaigning.

The online reaction grew quickly. Within minutes, hundreds of comments appeared, and many assumed wrongdoing without evidence. Analysts say this shows how fast political narratives form on social media.

Government supporters defend Browne’s approach. They claim he acted in the public interest by raising questions about duty-free concessions.

Lovell rejects that view. He argues that the Prime Minister is trying to deflect attention from the wider “Vehicle-Gate” matter. That issue involves more than 200 government-purchased vehicles that allegedly ended up in private hands.

He says the Prime Minister should address the scandal directly. He also raised concerns about Cabinet safeguards and the lack of an independent investigation.

Political tensions remain high. Lovell’s legal team will proceed once they gather all supporting documents. For now, the public waits for clarity on Vehicle-Gate and the duty-free waiver claims.
