Households to Get Greenlight for Solar Power Storage

Households

Households will soon get approval to install solar storage systems as the gov’t updates its renewable energy rules. Moreover, Energy Minister Melford Nicholas said the changes will help balance clean energy growth with stable electricity revenues.

Nicholas spoke ahead of the upcoming Renewable Energy Symposium. He said the gov’t still wants homeowners to invest in rooftop solar. However, he noted that a cap is necessary during the early stages. The new limit will guide responsible expansion while protecting the national grid.

The minister confirmed that the gov’t plans a 5kW cap on residential solar systems. He explained that this limit will prevent sharp revenue losses for the state utility. Additionally, he said the threshold will stay in place while broader renewable plans continue to develop.

“We want to do business with persons who wish to make the investment in their own solar rooftops,” Nicholas said. “But we’re going to have to put some limits in place.” He added that uncontrolled expansion could weaken state earnings. Therefore, the cap will help the gov’t avoid financial risk.

Even with the limit, households will still benefit from key upgrades. Nicholas said residents can use battery storage systems and modern inverters. These tools will help families manage energy use more efficiently. Furthermore, they will reduce dependence on the grid during peak hours.

The minister also shared that larger renewable projects are coming. He said the gov’t is planning utility-scale systems to support long-term energy goals. Details will appear at the symposium. Until then, the residential cap will protect the grid while national plans advance.

Nicholas said the new rules form part of a phased approach. This method will guide the country toward cleaner energy without harming financial stability. Additionally, it will help engineers monitor demand and protect grid performance.

He stressed that the gov’t remains committed to renewable energy growth. However, he said the shift must be steady, smart, and secure. Because of this, the 5kW limit and storage allowance will shape the next stage of energy reform.

In closing, Nicholas said the gov’t aims to support homeowners while safeguarding national revenues. As a result, families will gain more control over their energy use as the transition unfolds.
