Comptroller Steps Down, PM Flags Neglect

Comptroller

Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirmed that Comptroller of Customs Raju Boddu has resigned, citing stress-related health problems.

In Parliament, Browne said Boddu’s resignation follows a review of procurement in the Customs and Revenue Departments, especially regarding vehicle purchases that lacked full Cabinet approval. He described the issue as “wilful neglect” and noted that several senior officers have been reassigned.

Boddu stated that the pressures of his duties had become overwhelming, and he asked that his resignation not be treated as a disciplinary action. Prime Minister Browne said accountability must remain paramount, stressing that systems must be respected and that the integrity of public institutions cannot be compromised. The resignation follows reports that government vehicles were purchased without full Cabinet approval, raising questions about procedural compliance within the Customs Department.

A comprehensive internal investigation is now underway to determine the extent of any wrongdoing.
