Chris Gayle Launches Jamaican Premium Rum Brand

Chris

Jamaican cricket legend Chris Gayle has officially launched Rich Rum, a new premium spirits brand that government officials say could strengthen Brand Jamaica and promote local entrepreneurship. The launch took place at the AC Hotel Kingston on Wednesday, where business and government leaders praised the venture’s international ambitions.

State Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Delano Seiveright, described the launch as an important milestone for Jamaica. He said Gayle’s move from international cricket star to entrepreneur shows how Jamaicans can build successful businesses that compete on the global stage. Instead of simply endorsing another company’s product, Gayle chose to create a Jamaican-owned brand with export potential.

Seiveright said every successful local brand helps strengthen Jamaica’s economy by creating jobs, earning foreign exchange, and encouraging more people to start businesses. He added that Rich Rum reflects the country’s reputation for producing high-quality products with global appeal.

The new brand enters the market with three premium varieties: Overproof, Premium, and Dark. According to Seiveright, the rum uses authentic Jamaican ingredients, traditional copper pot distillation, and a strong focus on quality. He believes these features will help the product compete in regional and international markets.

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia “Babsy” Grange also attended the launch and recognised Gayle’s continued contribution to Jamaica. Officials noted that Gayle has represented the country successfully in sports and is now promoting Jamaica through business and manufacturing.

Seiveright said Jamaica already enjoys a strong international reputation through products and industries such as premium rum, Blue Mountain Coffee, music, sports, and food manufacturing. He encouraged more local entrepreneurs to develop products that can reach customers around the world rather than focusing only on the domestic market.

The minister also pointed to Jamaica’s improving economic conditions. He highlighted low unemployment, stable inflation, declining public debt, and strong foreign reserves as positive signs for investors and businesses. While acknowledging the country’s ongoing recovery after Hurricane Melissa, he said Jamaica continues to attract investment in manufacturing, hospitality, logistics, and commercial development.

Seiveright congratulated Gayle and Triple Gold Rums Limited on the launch. He expressed confidence that Rich Rum can become another internationally recognised Jamaican brand. He also encouraged other entrepreneurs to use Jamaica’s strong global reputation to build businesses that showcase the country’s products, culture, and innovation to consumers around the world.
