Government Commits US$50,000 in Medical Expenses for Injured Sergeant

The government has committed approximately US$50,000 to cover the medical and transportation expenses for Senior Sergeant Jeffrey Benjamin, who sustained severe injuries in a recent traffic crash. He is scheduled to be flown out of Antigua by Friday, July 10, to receive specialized treatment at Southern Medical Services in Trinidad and Tobago. The primary goal of this urgent medical intervention is to save one of his legs.

To facilitate the transfer, Health Minister Hon. Michael Joseph has authorized the Medical Benefits Scheme to provide an upfront disbursement of US40,000 to cover the hospital stay and treatment costs, which will later be partially offset by insurance payments. Additionally, the Cabinet has approved an extra US8,104 to fund the air ambulance required for his emergency transport.
