SLBMC Investigates Infant Death
The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has launched an official investigation following the death of an infant at the facility. The hospital’s response was prompted by a video concerning the child’s passing that began circulating on social media, leading the institution to issue a formal statement on July 8. Expressing deep sympathy, hospital officials described the loss as heartbreaking and acknowledged the immense difficulty the grieving family is facing.
According to the mother’s account, the infant was seen and sent home multiple times by doctors at the facility before suffering intense seizures that ultimately led to him being intubated and placed into a coma. He then passed away as a result of Bacterial Meningitis.
While the investigation is actively underway, hospital officials stated they cannot comment on specific clinical details due to patient confidentiality and the necessity of protecting the integrity of the inquiry. The SLBMC emphasized that it is handling the sensitive matter with care, professionalism, and sensitivity, and expressed gratitude for the public’s understanding during this process.
