Jonathan Wehner says a “village really did raise this young man” after his appointment as a UPP senator.

The newly appointed Opposition Senator shared a long message on Sunday.
He thanked his family, church, teachers, friends and political supporters.

Wehner said Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle selected him for the role.
He called the appointment a major honour and responsibility.

“It is an honour to be selected,” he said.
He added that he will serve Antigua and Barbuda and the youth.

Meanwhile, he expressed deep gratitude to God.
He also thanked his parents and extended family.

He said they supported him at every stage of his life.
He described them as “ever present and faithful.”

In addition, Wehner praised his church community.
He credited the ECBM circuit of churches for shaping his faith.

He also recognised his teachers along his education journey.
He said they gave him encouragement and guidance.

Furthermore, he thanked members of the United Progressive Party.
He described the party as a strong support system.

“My brothers and sisters of the UPP have always watched over me,” he said.
He said they treated him like family.

Wehner also acknowledged friends from childhood.
He said they stayed with him through the years.

He also thanked colleagues from the National Youth Parliament Association.
He said they played a key role in his development.

However, he made a light-hearted request as well.
He asked friends not to share embarrassing stories online.

“I’m just begging y’all not to embarrass me,” he joked.
He warned against posting nicknames on social media.

Finally, Wehner reflected on his journey.
He said many people helped shape his path.

He ended with a strong message of gratitude.
“A village really did raise this young man,” he said.

Wehner joins other opposition senators appointed after the April 30 general election.
The United Progressive Party now serves as the main opposition in Parliament.
