The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona campus has introduced measures to support students affected by Hurricane Melissa. One key step is a 50 percent discount on outstanding tuition fees for Semester I. This move comes as students expressed concerns about the decision to resume face-to-face classes shortly after the hurricane. The university understands these worries and is working to ease the burden on students.

UWI Mona management shared that the campus is safe and ready for students to return. They have all essential utilities and the infrastructure is mostly intact. However, the university is sensitive to students’ mental health and offers flexible options. Those overwhelmed by the situation can defer assessments or classes to a later date.

To help students continue their studies even if they cannot come to campus, lectures and course materials will be available online through the university’s Learning Management System. Payment deadlines for tuition will also be extended until May 2026 for the remaining balance after the discount. The university remains committed to supporting its students through these challenging times and will provide updates on the delayed reopening of the Western campus.
