US Navy’s Largest Warship Arrives in Caribbean Amid Tensions
The USS Gerald R Ford, the world’s largest warship, has arrived in the Caribbean as part of a US naval strike group. This move follows orders from former President Donald Trump amid ongoing strikes against suspected drug boats. The strike force aims to disrupt drug trafficking and criminal activities in the region.
The carrier group includes over 4,000 sailors and various aircraft, supported by guided-missile destroyers and other vessels. The arrival adds to a strong US military presence in Latin America, which also includes troops, a nuclear-powered submarine, and aircraft based in Puerto Rico. This buildup marks one of the largest US military deployments in the area in decades.
Tensions have risen as the US continues strikes on alleged drug trafficking boats, leading to accusations from Venezuela’s government that the US is stirring a crisis. Despite these concerns, the US defends its actions, saying they are necessary to fight narcotics flow and protect safety in the region.
The presence of the USS Gerald R Ford signals a significant escalation in US efforts to counter drug trafficking in the Caribbean while heightening political tensions in the region.
