Sports Minister Praises CARIFTA Medalists After Strong Showing

Sports Minister Daryll S. Matthew has praised the nation’s young athletes after their strong showing at the CARIFTA Games.

As the team returned home, Matthew highlighted their medal wins and personal best performances. He said the results show discipline, focus, and hard work.

Firstly, sprinter Tyra Fenton led the team with an outstanding performance. She won gold in the 100m and 200m events. In addition, she secured bronze in the 400m.

Meanwhile, Zonique Charles delivered a strong result in the field. She earned a silver medal in the javelin event. Similarly, Maliek Francis captured bronze in the same discipline.

According to the minister, these achievements reflect the athletes’ commitment to excellence. Moreover, he noted that several competitors achieved personal bests during the games.

Among those recognized were Ryan Aikin, Shaquan Garding, Jaeda Pigott, and Shawn-Ze Joseph. In addition, Elite Thomas, Fenton, and Geron Henry also recorded improved performances.

Furthermore, Matthew praised the entire team and coaching staff. He thanked them for representing Antigua and Barbuda with pride. He also highlighted their effort and determination throughout the competition.

At the same time, he described the overall campaign as a success. Not only did the team win medals, but they also showed clear progress. Therefore, he believes the future of athletics in Antigua and Barbuda looks promising.
