Police are actively investigating the death of Karen Johannsen, an American woman from Paradise View. Her death followed an attack at Dickenson Bay.

Reports indicate that around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2025, Johannsen was struck in the back of the head with a blunt object by an unknown male while on a horseback riding tour. Consequently, she suffered serious head injuries.

Emergency Medical Services immediately transported her to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. There, doctors treated her injuries before airlifting her to the United States for further care.

Tragically, medical staff at the University of Wisconsin Hospital pronounced Johannsen dead at 10:17 p.m. local time on December 26, 2025.

Meanwhile, police have detained a male suspect who is cooperating with investigators. Authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. They emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and urged anyone with information to assist.

Furthermore, the Police Administration expressed condolences to Johannsen’s family and loved ones, describing her passing as a tragic loss.

Authorities are calling on the public to help. Anyone with information should contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913. Alternatively, tips can be submitted anonymously through the Crimestoppers hotline at 800-TIPS (8477).

Police are also reviewing surveillance footage and statements from witnesses. Additionally, they are monitoring the suspect’s cooperation closely. If new evidence emerges, investigators may press further charges.
