Police Probe Break-In at Potters Registration Unit
Police are investigating a break-in at the St George Constituency Registration Unit in Potters Village. The incident happened sometime between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning.
According to an official at the unit, an employee made the discovery around 8 a.m. yesterday. The official, who requested anonymity, said the worker noticed signs of the break-in as soon as they arrived.
She explained that she could not confirm the exact time of the incident. However, she said it clearly occurred during the period mentioned.
Meanwhile, officers from the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda visited the scene shortly after the report. They reviewed the area, gathered information, and began preparing their official statement. Additionally, investigators are now working to determine how the intruder gained access.
When asked if this was the first time the unit had been targeted, the official said she was unsure. Therefore, she could not confirm whether the building had been breached before.
The Registration Unit in Potters plays an important role in the community. It supports two government bodies: the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) and the Antigua and Barbuda Social Security Board. Because of this dual purpose, many residents visit the office regularly.
The St George ABEC Registration Unit sits opposite the Potters Primary School. It serves three main electoral functions. First, it handles voter registration for eligible residents over 18 who live in the constituency. Second, it provides a location for voter ID card collection. Finally, it processes requests for transferring voter records between constituencies.
Therefore, the break-in has raised concerns about the security of essential public services. Although no details about missing items were released, residents are hopeful that operations will continue without major disruption.
Furthermore, officials expect the police to release more information once their investigation progresses. Until then, staff members remain alert, and the community waits for answers.
As authorities continue their work, many hope this incident encourages stronger security measures at public offices across the country.
